Gymnastic Term 4

 Hi,

In Hurumanu 5 we were trying out different types of Gymnastic apparatus so the six apparatus that we use is Trampoline,Beam, Parallel Bars, Bar, Floor/Mat,Mini Trampoline.

On the tramp people can jump around and do some flip such as Back Flip and Front Flip and also other skills.

At the Beam section you can balance around were there is only one path that is about 4 metres long and 20 cm wide so you have to walk across that path. You can also play around on Beam because you can stop and balance at one foot.

In the Parallel Bars you can walk with your hands while pushing your self up and you can also walk backwards with your hands or tuck jumps, leg lifts.

Bar on the bar you can circle up on the bar, roll of the bar and other things you can do at the bar.

At the Floor/ Mat section you can do flips like front flip, Back flip, Handstand, Forward roll and other skills.

On the Mini trampoline you can run then jump and while you are in the air you can do some styles like do a Front flip then stand at your feet or do a Back flip then land on your feet you can also do this things like do the Micheal Jordan Logo and hold it for long as you can.

The Bully

 Hi,

In Drama we have to write something about what it feels like to be a Bully so I actually don't know what it feels like to be a bully so this is just the things that I already know. The bully feels so good when they bully other people younger than them and hurting them like physically hurting them like punching them so hard and making them cry. Or the bully is just talking verbally to the victim to make them feel bad for themselves so the bully is feeling good they are having fun and feeling so tough.

Wananga

 Hi,

In Wananga we had a year 9 leader that will teach us something like what my leader did he taught us how to kick a ball properly and how to kick curve. The things that went well in our lesson was following the leader's instructions and trying the things that he taught us.

Hurumanu 2

 Hi,

In Hurumanu we did freeze frame and the teacher took a photo of us doing the frame so me and my friends did a bullying freeze frame. So what we did in our freeze frame is showing the emotion of the person and what is happening to them. You can see at the photo at the bottom that the bully is having fun and the person getting bullied is getting angry to the bully because he got punch. The person who is trying to stop the bully is having a hard time because the bully is bigger than the guy who is stopping him. We learned this kinds of techniques in drama so this is what we learned at Hurumanu 2.

  •  Barter Island

  • Statistical Inquiry

  • Car Purchase challenge

  • Mean,Median and Mode

  • Needs vs Wants

  • Value for Money

  • Trading around the world

  • SuperMarket Challenge

What I Learned:

  •  I learned how to put some graphs in google sheets because I did not know that we can put graphs in google sheets.

  •  I learned about Mean, Median and Mode and how to calculate what it means and how to solve the Mean, Median and Mode.

  • I learned how to make a good trade by playing Trading around the world game.

  • I learned how to manage finances in Banqer

My Favourite Part:

  • My favourite part was playing Trading around the world game.

  •  I also like Banqer when we receive a lot of money to buy a car.

  • The Car Purchase challenge was also my favourite because we only have a limit of money to spend a car on and we have to get some insurance for the car.

My Next Steps:

  •  My next steps are to invest some money.

  •  My next steps is to learn more about statistical Inquiry.

  • My next steps is to remember about Mean, Median and Mode

2011 Earthquake

 Hi,

In Hurumanu 1 we are learning about the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. What we did was a watch an hour clip to learn about the 2011 earthquake we watch it to get some ideas of what happened and what the places in Christchurch looks like before the earthquake happened. Then we have to summarise the clip that we had watch here is the summary that I have done.

In the 2011 Christchurch earthquake a lot of people died especially in the city of Christchurch lots of buildings were destroyed and families broken. Homes of people were also destroyed by a big flood of liquefaction, homes were full of mud and they couldn't use these anymore so they had to move out of their house. Some people used their garage to sleep in because their house was broken and some people used tents and slept outside their homes, outside in the middle of the cold night. A lot of people also survived the earthquake but they were injured and bleeding, a lot people were also terrified. The people with businesses helped people and gave food around the neighbour hood.

People who helped in the earthquake were the Firefighters, Taiwanese rescuers, Student Army, Japanese search and rescue, Navy and the NZ Military they all helped together to rescue the people that are in needs. They also helped to rebuild the city of Christchurch. There was also a problem because some of the Hospital were broken because of the earthquake. The rest home place also helped a lot of people.

Making A Mars Rover

Hi,

In Hurumanu 3 science we tried making a Mars Rover using pastas and Round mints. So what we had to do first was to plan what would the mars rover would look like before we actually make it we draw it on a piece of paper and draw some ideas for the rover. After a few minutes we started making the rover then we put the parts together with my group. We used glues to put the parts together and stick it the challenge to us was to make the wheels move it took us a lot of time to think of how the wheels is going to move. The last part that we had done was do the challenge was trying the car and putting it on the 1m down ramp it didn't work quite right because the wheels broke here is some of the photos that was taken during the making of the rover.

Making a Compass

 Hi,

In Hurumanu 3 we made our own compass using water and an ice cream container, a small leaf and a tiny pin. We use those things to make a compass so we started of with stroking the tiny pin on the side of the magnet to about 3 minutes and it would be sticking on the magnet. After that we have to put a water on our ice cream container about 2 cm high from the container then put the small leaf at the top of the water and let it float on top. Then put the pin at the top of the leaf and wait for it to stop moving and you find which way is North that is how we made a compass using simple things here is a photo of the experiment.

The First Compass Invented

 Hi,

In Hurumanu 3 we are learning about navigation the first thing we did was to watch video clip about how to use a compass. Then we have to search up who made the compass and where they made it here is the activity that we did.

The first person to make a compass was a British man named William Thomson he was a mathematical physicist and an engineer. He made the first compass in china he made the first compass with lodestone a natural magnetized of ore iron.

The compass is also used in a sport like the Orienteering sport the sport is a navigation sport that requires maps and compasses. Hunting also uses compass so they don't get lost in the woods and also sailing sailors also uses compass because there wouldn't be any signs on the middle of the ocean so they would have to use compass.

The Military, Pilot and miners uses compass because they need to find their way through so they don't get lose on their way.

This compass was probably one of the first navigation compasses ...Chinese History timeline | Timetoast timelines

Science

 Hi,

In Science we are learning about navigation without using any maps but using the sky. So we learned about the southern cross on the sky and use it as a guide so we can know the way to find home. Here is the science writing the we have done.

Early Polynesian

How do you find your way around? The Polynesian people find their way through the pacific ocean

using the sun because when the sun rises that means it is East so they would know the way to the

east. The Polynesian people use the sun set for the West so they know that they are going west and

don’t get lost in the middle of the ocean.

The Polynesian people also use stars so there is a star that they call is Hokupa’a and it is a fixed star

and does know move even when the earth rotates. They use that star as a North so they would know

that that is the way to the north.

The Polynesian people also use clouds to know if there is an Island closed by looking at the clouds

upside down. Because you can see the Islands reflection up in the clouds and also when there is a group

of big clouds bunching up together. They also know when they are very close to the Island by seeing

birds flying up in the sky because the birds can’t fly that far away from land because they would need

to rest.

The Polynesian people look under the sea because they can see the vegetation under the sea and they

would know that there is an Island closed by. They will know when they are close by seeing the

vegetation under the water.

The fish is also a sign that there is an Island close by. It is kind of similar to vegetation because when

you see a bunch of fish there is an Island that you are close to because fish goes close to Islands.

Debris the debris is also a sign that you are close to the Island because you can see the debris

floating over the water. Because the people are throwing some rubbish on the ocean and floating away

from the Island and polluting the ocean.

The water swells is also a way to get to an Island because the water swells pushes the things

that are floating in the middle of the ocean and pushes it to a shore. That is also a way to get away

from the middle of the ocean and get to a shore.

In conclusion, the early Polynesian people did not use maps at that time but they used the Stars,

Water Swells, Debris, Vegetation, Sun and Moon, Clouds and Fish. They use this to guide them to their

way through the pacific ocean without using any maps.
