In English we have been reading a book called Abomination and we were set a tasked to do and here is what I have done so far.

The Springbok Tour Protest

Hi,

In English we needed to read a short story and answer a few questions and the Title of the story is The Springbok Tour Protest here is what I have done.

1.) What is another word for apartheid?  

Discrimination and Racism.

2.) Why did the protester need helmets? 

It is because the police used special long Baton to hit the protesters.

3.) Why was Hamilton rugby game cancelled?

The Hamilton game was cancelled because of the hundreds of anti-tour protesters occupied the field chanting.

4.) Why do you think being called honorary whites upset the Maori All Blacks?

It is because they don't like being called hononary whites they only want to represent their country.

5.) Do you think this protest was successful? Why? Why not?

I think the protest was successful because All Blacks today are still continuing playing rugby.

6.) How do you think the New Zealand protest helped Nelson Mandela>

I think it helped Nelson Mandela to think what he was gonna do when he becomes the presidents

In English we needed to write a speech and my speech is about ( Students would learn more if school started at 10 AM ) and we needed to pick which side, Agree or Disagree so I pick disagree here is the planning sheet that we have done.

Write that Essay Sentences

The ' W ' Sentence - Makes the sentence sound thoughtful and knowledgeable. 

Remember the rule: Not ever ' w ' words works as sentences starter. Remember to put a your comma in when the parts of the sentences affected why your ' w ' are finished.

Some ' w ' words you can use- Who, While, Whereas, When, Where, What, Whilst, With.

Examples: 

• Whilst the class was eating, I read my book. 
• Where you like chocolate, others prefer candy.
• When I finished eating, I played Basketball.
• While my brother was studying, me and my friends played games.
• Whereas my clothes are small, but my brother's is big.

Task 1

• Suddenly, my friends laugh without any joke.
• Unfortunately, I lost the Athletics tournament.
• Surprisingly, I finished my work on time.
• Enthusiastically, I wen't to school.

Task 2

Through the hills, there are houses.

Under the ocean, there are corals.

On the roof, there are solar panels.

Behind the coach, we shared food.

Task 3

Silently the cat, stalked its prey.

In 1975, a High School was finally built in Hornby.

Amongst the papers, I found my Homework.

Anxiously, I awaited my test results.

Fortunately the kai today, was something good.

About twenty years ago, law was passed that changed everything.

Often the things we say, and the things we mean are two different things.

The ' ing ' sentence

Use the-ing version of the verb e.g to run-running

Remember the rule- When you finish your-ing phrase, place a comma, then write the rest of the sentence.

Some-ing words- Listening, watching, running, realising, emerging, grasping, speaking, analysing, signalling, exposing, gossiping, wanting.

Examples- Realising the danger, people fled from the cities.

• Shaking away the nerves, he walked towards the microphone.
• Acknowledging the speaker, he bowed his head in silence.
• Wanting to eat, he went to Burger King.
• Listening to music, I sang with the song.
• Speaking in a nice tone, I accidentally forgot the sentence.

The ' ed ' sentence

Try starting the sentence with ' ed ' form of verb e.g to jog-jogged. This makes a punchy start to your sentence.

Remember the rule-When you finish your-ed phrase, place a comma, then write the rest of the sentence.

Som-ing words- Frustrated, surprised, excited, committed, undaunted, determined, overpowered, concerned, cornered, delighted, enthralled, wanted.

Examples- Determined to win, Tony pushed himself the last meters of the sprint.

• Concerned for the welfare of others, the Prime Minister passed new laws.
• Frustrated by the on going rain, I stared out the window.
• Overpowered government, the people are being controlled. 
• Surprised by the new built school, I quickly got inside.
• Cornered by the enemy, we tried to get away.
• Excited to travel, I over slept 
• Wanted to sleep, we layed on our beds.

The power sentence

If you waffle a lot, try starting your sentence with a power statement of 12 words or less.

Example: Money is the route of all evil

• What is right, isn't always popular.
• Hard work leads to positive results.
• Strength isn't always good, thinking is.
• People may look like each other but they think different.

The ' Red, White and Blue' sentence:

Use this sentence style, when you have several ideas to convey about a topic.

Example: Successful students are focused, hard-working and punctual.

Task 1

What were you doing, earlier.

Task 3

• Emerging from the depth, the monster sought its new prey.
• When the baking was complete, the ovens were cleaned thoroughly.
• Committed to improving their routine the dancers, trained daily.
• Overpowered by the wave the swimmers, were swept off their feet.
• Analysing the situation, the commander decided the hill route was the best.
• While we were watching, the experiment the paper ignited.
• Hoping to improve his score, Matthew studied his times tables daily.
• With their friends and family, watching the students took the stage.

In English we were learning about some sentence starters about Adverb here is the work that we have done.

The Adverb Sentence:

Adverbs describe verbs. e.g Surprisingly, Confusingly, Firstly, Remarkbly, Often.

Adverb sentence starters add interest or intrigue to our work.

Remember the rule: When you start a sentence with an adverb, place a comma after the adverb then write the rest sentence.

Examples- Accidentally, Shockingly, Concerningly, Excitedly, Significantly,Similarly, Simply.

• Simply, I added the milk to the batter.
• Shockingly, the lunch today was served hot.
• Accidentally, we screamed because of the huge insect.
• Excitedly, we ran towards the coach.
• Unfortunately, we ran out of food.
• Fortunately, we have a fun activity.
• Suddenly, I slip when I was walking.
• Quietly, I walked out of the classroom.
• Quickly, got out of the classroom.
• Skilfully, I scored a goal.
• Creatively, finish the work.

The Sentence

Examples-In, Against, Between, Over, Behind, Within, Under, Below, At, For, Throughout, Near, About.

A preposition gives location or movement.

Remember the rule: When, you start the sentence with a preposition, you need to put a comma when the movement or position ends.

Example: In the beginning, we talked a lot.

Throughout the lesson, I tried not to fall asleep.

Near the basketball court, is the rubbish bin.

• Between the hills, there are towns.
• Under the ocean, there are corals.
• Behind the gym, is a parking lot.

In our Hurumanu English we needed to pick a side which we are going to support for example the side of Disagreement and Agreement. The topic that I pick for this activity is ( Student would learn more if school started at 10 AM ) We did this activity in a site called coggle here is the work that I have done.

 

 

 

Che Guevara

 Hi,

In English we did some speech and we have to write about the person that we picked and put some information about him/her. So I picked Che Guevara and it is a man that we from Argentina. Here is the writing that I have done I hope you like my speech.

Today I will be introducing you to Ernesto Guevara de la Serna also known as Che Guevara.

Born in 1928 June 14 at Rosario Argentina. He later on became a Marxist revolutionary, Physician, Author, Guerilla leader, Diplomat and a Military Theorist. He went to University of Buenos Aires for schooling, but then he also left the school to continue his travelling. He travelled to different countries, such as Africa and South America. In 1953 Che Guevara completed his medical degree and he became a fully qualified doctor. In September 1954, Che Guevara found a job as a doctor in Mexico City Hospital for 2 years, but he also left the Hospital to take part in Military Training exercise on 26th of July 1956. 

October 9th 1967 he got assassinated and got shot 9 times before dying, he was assassinated at La Higuera, Bolivia, the person who shot him was Mario Teran Salazar.
